04 October, Midrand Waterfall City – World Food Day is celebrated across the globe, with invested establishments working towards a vision to end hunger and promote nutritious food globally. This year, Attacq Foundation, together with its partners Sage Foundation and Balwin Foundation are partnering with Rise Against Hunger to provide 90 000 meal packs to Early Childhood Centres across South Africa.
According to a December 2020 Ipsos study conducted on behalf of the Centre for Social Development in Africa, large numbers of people are suffering from long-term hunger, with almost half of South African households (46%) going hungry on a daily basis.
Danny Vermeulen, Transformation Manager at Attacq says, “One of the most devastating ‘unintended consequences’ of the response to the Covid-19 pandemic in South Africa is the acceleration of food insecurity. Attacq is invested in supporting our people and our communities. Through this activation, we are not only donating food during World Food Month, but also by providing a coordinated national event across all our retail-experience hubs where we have committed to packing 90 000 meals for those in need. We need everyone’s help, South Africa!”
