13 June 2019. Dads can spend Father’s Day 2019 showing off their cooking skills at this year’s Waterfall Market Potjie Challenge.
Since its official launch in February this year, the Waterfall Market has become the go-to destination for Sunday family fun with its mix of gourmet food, entertainment and child-friendly games.
This year’s Father’s Day Potjie challenge is a celebration of a uniquely South African tradition. Winners will be chosen based on spirit, originality, themes, aroma, taste, and technique. Teams will stand a chance to win a BMW Off Road experience, as well as craft beer and wine hampers.
“The Potjie challenge will give families an opportunity to put their own unique spin on a South African classic,” says Waterfall Market founder, Greg Straw.
Straw, as well as popular celebrity chef Hezron Louw, will be on the judging panel. Louw is best known for being a contestant on the first season of the SABC3 reality competition series, Top Chef South Africa, and is currently the co-owner of a gourmet street food company, Sumting Fresh.
Spaces are limited to a total of 20 teams will be allowed to enter, each comprising of four people. The entry fee per team is R100. Patrons will be able to buy tickets for R50 each, which secures a bowl and spoon, with a choice of either rice or pap, and a serving from the pot of your choice.
Waterfall Market will supply the following on the day:
- Work station
- Bag of charcoal,
- Shade
The proceeds from the event will be donated to the non-profit testicular cancer awareness campaign, Love Your Nuts Testicular Cancer Fund. The surplus food will be donated to a local children’s home.
