Our heartwarming Attacq Rise Against Hunger activation on 18 July 2024
On 18 July 2024, Attacq joined hands with Rise Against Hunger Africa for an impactful Mandela Day activation. This initiative saw volunteers from various shopping centres and malls come together to pack meals for children at Early Childhood Development Centres (ECDs). The energy, commitment and community spirit displayed by everyone involved were incredibly inspiring. The impactful real-world results speak volumes about the collective power of compassion and action.
Rise Against Hunger: Making a real impact
Rise Against Hunger is dedicated to eradicating hunger one meal at a time through their practical, strategic approach, which includes meal packing events, sustainable farming projects and disaster relief activities. Since its inception in 2010, the organisation has made significant strides towards achieving Zero Hunger, aligning with the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals.
Major success across Attacq’s retail-experience hubs
This year’s Mandela Day activation to help alleviate hunger surpassed all expectations, with each of our participating retail-experience hubs achieving remarkable results.

– 1 971 boxes filled
– 1 101 volunteers involved
– 1 851 children fed for a year, five days a week
These figures are testament to the dedication and hard work of all volunteers and our supportive community. Surpassing the initial target of 400 000 meals, together, we managed to pack an incredible 425 736 meals, ensuring that 1 851 children will receive nutritious meals for an entire year.
Community spirit and civic engagement
The Rise Against Hunger activation event not only focused on packing meals but also fostered a strong sense of community and teamwork which is at the heart of our purpose at Attacq. Our purpose is to create a positive impact in our spaces and communities, generating sustainable value for all stakeholders involved. Each volunteer brought their own enthusiasm and energy, contributing to an atmosphere of joy and solidarity. The participation of 1 101 volunteers, drawn from our client base at Attacq and the broader shopper community, demonstrated how Attacq served as a platform enabling others to participate and do good. This collective effort underscores our commitment to making a tangible difference within our various communities.
Lynnwood Bridge: Setting the pace
At Lynnwood Bridge, 116 volunteers packed 141 boxes, resulting in 30 456 meals. The centre’s early momentum set a positive tone for the entire activation, with each subsequent update on the day showcasing increasing numbers of meals packed and boxes filled.
MooiRivier Mall: Consistent contribution
MooiRivier Mall saw 107 volunteers pack 121 boxes, totalling 26 136 meals. The steady progress and commitment of the volunteers at this centre played a crucial role in achieving the overall success of the initiative.
Garden Route Mall: Stepping up
With 145 volunteers, Garden Route Mall packed 143 boxes, producing 30 888 meals. The enthusiasm and dedication displayed by the volunteers were instrumental in surpassing their targets.
Eikestad Mall: Going above and beyond
Eikestad Mall’s 140 volunteers packed 178 boxes, totalling 38 448 meals. Their efforts were marked by an exceptional commitment to the cause, contributing significantly to the overall goal.
Mall of Africa, at Waterfall City Park: Leading the charge
Mall of Africa, at Waterfall City Park stood out with an extraordinary effort, packing 1 388 boxes and producing 299 808 meals with the help of 593 volunteers. This centre’s contribution was pivotal in surpassing the 400 000 total meal target.
